    15 highly effective folk remedies for treating coughs with phlegm in children

    2. Brown Sugar, Garlic, and Ginger Mixture

    – 1 piece of brown sugar
    – 2 – 3 cloves of garlic
    – a few slices of ginger, a little bit of filtered water

    Instructions:
    Boil a mixture of brown sugar, a few slices of ginger, 2 or 3 cloves of garlic, and filtered water, then simmer for about 10 minutes, let cool, and give it to the child to drink.

    3. Vietnamese Balm

    Ingredients:
    – A handful of Vietnamese balm leaves
    – A little rock sugar or honey

    Instructions:
    Wash Vietnamese balm leaves, chop finely, mix with rock sugar or honey, then steam. Give the child 2 times/day. Vietnamese balm has the effect of clearing the throat, benefiting the lungs, and effectively treating phlegm.

    4. Steamed Kumquat with Honey/Rock Sugar

    Ingredients:
    – 2 – 3 kumquats
    – Honey or rock sugar

    Instructions:
    Wash the kumquats, cut them horizontally, leaving the seeds intact (because they have the effect of dissolving phlegm and warming the child’s larynx) and the peel, mix with honey or rock sugar, then steam for about 30 minutes. Give to children several times a day.

    5. Xương Sông (Blumea balsamifera) and Chives

    – A handful of Xương Sông leaves
    – A handful of chives
    – A little sugar

    Instructions:
    Chop the Xương Sông leaves and chives, mix with a little sugar, steam, and give to the baby several times a day. Xương Sông leaves are effective in treating phlegm, laryngitis, and fever.

    6. Licorice Root

    – A few slices of licorice root
    – Boiling water

    Instructions:
    Licorice root has a sweet taste, contains antibacterial components and helps soothe the throat, so mothers can give it to children whenever they have a coughing fit.
    Note: Do not use licorice root to treat coughs in newborns.

    7. White Rose Petals

    – 5 – 10 white rose petals
    – A little rock sugar
    – A little filtered water.

    Instructions:
    Wash white rose petals, mix with filtered water and rock sugar. Steam. Give the baby 1 spoon/time; 3 – 4 times/day.

    8. Pear and Rock Sugar Mixture

    Ingredients:
    -1 large pear
    – Crushed rock sugar
    – 5 or 6 Sterculia lychnophora seeds (buy at Oriental medicine stores).

    Instructions:
    Wash, peel, and core the pear. Put rock sugar and Sterculia lychnophora seeds inside the pear and steam for about 30 minutes. This mixture is effective in treating pneumonia, phlegm, and coughs. Give the baby 2 times a day.

    9. Boiled White Radish

    – 1 white radish

    – A little filtered water

    Instructions:

    Wash and slice the white radish, put it in a small pot, add 1 bowl of filtered water, bring to a boil, then simmer for about 10 minutes. Boiled white radish water treats dry coughs and coughs with phlegm.

    Note: Drink white radish water while it is still warm to be effective.

    – 2 -3 cloves of garlic
    – 1 piece of rock sugar
    – 1 cup of filtered water

    Crush the garlic, put it in a bowl with rock sugar + filtered water and steam for 15 minutes. Just give the baby the water to drink, no need to eat the garlic, 2 – 3 times a day. Drink the water while it is still warm. It is effective in treating coughs, colds, good for the stomach and lungs.

    11. Chrysanthemum Greens and Honey

    Ingredients:
    – A handful of chrysanthemum greens leaves
    – A little honey.

    Instructions:

    Wash chrysanthemum greens leaves, drain, and chop finely. Then add a little honey and steam. After 20 minutes of steaming, let it cool and give it to the baby to drink. To be effective, give it to the baby for 3 – 5 days. According to Oriental medicine, chrysanthemum greens are benign and very effective in treating coughs.

    12. Peach Syrup

    Ingredients:
    – Peach
    – Honey
    – Rock sugar.

    Instructions:
    Put the peach, honey, and rock sugar mixture into a blender. Blend, strain, discard the pulp, and give to the baby 3 times a day. If the child finds it difficult to drink, you can add a little warm water.

    13. Steamed Peach with Honey/Rock Sugar

    Ingredients:
    – Peach (choose fresh, thin-skinned, ripe fruit)
    – Rock sugar
    – Honey.

    Instructions:
    Wash the peach, drain, thinly slice, remove the seeds, mix with rock sugar or honey, then steam. Give the child the above mixture during the day, while it is still warm. Dosage 2 – 3 times/day.

    14. Pickled Peach

    Ingredients:
    – 1 kg peach (choose fresh, ripe, thin-skinned fruit)
    – 1 liter of honey
    – 0.5kg rock sugar (/1 kg salt)
    – 1 glass jar with a lid, bamboo rack

    Instructions:
    Wash the peaches, then soak them in cooled boiled water + a little salt for 30 minutes, then take the peaches out to dry completely. Cut the peaches into small slices, being careful not to remove the seeds. Crush the rock sugar, add a layer of rock sugar, a layer of peaches until finished. Add honey last. Use a rack to press the peaches down; after 3 months, it can be used.

    Note: Rock sugar can be replaced with salt. The method is as above.

    15. Rock Sugar and Chives

    – A little rock sugar
    – A handful of chives.

    Instructions:
    Wash the chives, chop finely; crush the rock sugar, mix together, and steam. Then strain the water for the baby to drink. Dosage 2 -3 spoons/time. Drink 2 times a day.
