When a child reaches the age of walking and talking, but still hasn’t learned to do so, it will surely make any mother anxious. Especially when they see other children of the same age already walking and talking, parents become even more worried.
There are many cases where parents fear that their child has a problem that’s causing the delay. However, mothers shouldn’t worry too much, because each child has different developmental stages. Some children learn to walk and talk quickly, while others are slower; this doesn’t affect anything and isn’t necessarily a problem. If you see that your child is too slow and shows unusual signs compared to other children of the same age, then you need to worry and take them to see a doctor.
Below are a few folk tips passed down from our grandparents, with many useful tricks. These tips are quite simple and don’t affect or harm the child’s health, so mothers can rest assured.
Tips to Help Your Baby Walk Faster
A very useful trick that many mothers have used and found effective is using a snakehead fish to tap on the baby’s legs. For babies around 12 months and older, when they can already stand on their own but haven’t started walking, try this tip.
+ How to do it: Go to the market and buy a live snakehead fish (also known as striped snakehead or giant mudfish), wash it clean. Remember to choose a healthy, live one. Then, tap the fish on the baby’s calves. Tap 7 times for a boy and 9 times for a girl (a ritual).
+ You can do this once or several times. This tip is also said to help cure bowlegs.
After using the fish for this ritual, you can cook it in a sour soup for the whole family, which is very convenient, isn’t it? Try it and wait a few days to see the results.
Some comments from mothers who have applied this tip:
Tips to Help Children Talk Faster
Besides being late to walk, a child being late to talk also makes mothers quite anxious. For children who are slow to talk, older generations often recommend the trick of “snatching food”.
+ How to do it: Go out on the street or to the market, and when you see someone (anyone) about to put food in their mouth, quickly snatch it and run home to give it to your child or grandchild to eat. It doesn’t matter how much or how little they eat. (Note: Don’t tell the person whose food you snatched beforehand, as it will break the spell).
It sounds quite funny, and certainly only the bravest and most daring mothers would dare to follow this tip. However, when the person whose food was snatched understands the situation and the mother apologizes, they probably won’t scold her.
These folk tips are certainly hard to believe, aren’t they? However, our ancestors have applied these tips since ancient times, and there must be a reason for it. Nowadays, life is more modern, and these folk tips are gradually being forgotten, however, for mothers who still believe and successfully apply them, this practice doesn’t cause any harm. Good luck to all mothers.
